EDEN was named the winner of the Roger Gadsby Award at the 16th National Conference of the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS).

Launched in 2017 as a new annual prize, The Roger Gadsby Award is given to the poster which meets certain criteria’s that demonstrate the best example of a diabetes primary care audit.

The award was announced on the evening of Friday, November 6th.

EDEN, based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) were delighted to be announced as winners for their poster, CARES (Care Home Education and Safety).

Laura Willcocks, EDEN’s Lead for Healthcare Professional (HCP) Education and Training, said: “Education for both healthcare professionals and patients has always been a passion and as lead for the EDEN team at LDC, myself and the team get to work in these areas on a daily basis.

“Being able to develop, deliver and evaluate high quality education that helps change and improve practice is integral to our ethos. We pride ourselves on working across key areas of need, and education in care homes was high on our agenda.

“Developing a face to face programme, with excellent feedback and early outcomes is something we are proud of, and is only the start of the journey. Rapidly switching to a fully digital offer which is currently being delivered nationwide is just another way we have demonstrated flexibility of approach.

“Submitting the poster for PCDS was one way to share the work we have done to date, and being awarded the Roger Gadsby Award for quality improvement, audit and making improvements that benefit patient care is just the icing on the cake.

“Keep watch – there’s lots more to come including a fast track programme, and an offer for community nurses.”

James Ridgeway, Education and Research Associate at Eden, said: “I am thrilled to have developed the CARES programme with EDEN, Sarah Gregory and Amar Puttanna. It was great to see the impact in knowledge and confidence in diabetes and reduction in hospital admission risk for one of the cohorts that we have trained in February this year.

“To have been awarded the Roger Gadsby Award in recognition of this work is the cherry on top. There is still much work to do to educate as many Care Home staff as possible in diabetes, but I am excited to be part of this journey with EDEN which can help make a difference.”

Hosted on the PCDS National posters page, the digital posters were judged throughout the conference by an expert panel.

Alex Dardart, Senior Project Co-ordinator at OmniaMed Communications, said: “Thank you very much for your participation in this year’s National PCDS poster awards. We are delighted to announce that your poster, ‘CARES (Care Home Education and Safety)’ has been chosen by Roger Gadsby to receive this year’s award.”
