Free diabetes education for Care Home staff now available from Eden
Educating care home staff in the management of diabetes is an essential part of ensuring safe, high-quality care for residents.
Over the past four years, the Leicester Diabetes Centre’s Eden team, working in collaboration with Sanofi, has successfully delivered Sanofi CARES, an award-winning online education programme for care home staff. More than 2,000 staff members have already participated, reporting increased knowledge and confidence in diabetes management. This has led to improved standards of care and fewer adverse events, such as medication errors and avoidable hospital admissions.
As that collaboration comes to a close, Eden is proud to continue supporting this vital workforce. From September 2025, the Eden CARES online diabetes education programme will be available completely free of charge to care home staff across the UK.
The updated programme maintains the same high-quality, accessible learning, but now includes new content on hybrid closed-loop therapy, a crucial addition in light of the recent Breakthrough T1D report: ’The Impact of Ageing on Type 1 Diabetes’, which emphasised the need for specialist diabetes training in care settings.
With the NHS 10-year plan focusing on community care and the prevention of complications, now is the perfect time for care home staff to take advantage of this training. By completing Eden CARES, staff can build the skills and confidence to deliver safe, effective care for people living with diabetes.
